oh my god, it's a mirage, I'm tellin' y'all it's

also, even though I've chosen "Americans should call it the 'Zee Ex Spectrum' not 'Zed Ex' because it's spelled with a 'Z' and 'Z' isn't pronounced 'Zed' in American English" as one of the petty hills I'm willing to die on, I'm probably inevitably going to slip up and refer to it as the "Zed Ex Spectrum" because basically all the retro YouTubers I watch, even the American ones, do too

also, to be unnecessarily clear, this was from a US seller who is including a US power supply, I'm not going to be running this thing with a step-up transformer (not that I haven't considered it when I considered trying to buy a KC85 off eBay. I decided against it because I figured it would summon the ghost of Erich Honecker to haunt me as soon as it detected it was running on capitalist 60Hz electricity)

what has two thumbs and made the probably ill advised decision to buy a ZX Spectrum she saw on eBay? 👍🏻😎👍🏻 this gal!

guess I need to find an aux cable to be able to play some tape images to load on it, at least until I can get my BackBit Pro cartridge and a Spectrum adapter for it

if you pronounce "processes" with a long e ("process-eez") instead of an unstressed vowel ("process-iz"), I'm sorry to be the one to inform you of this, but you sound like you are pluralizing a diminutive form of "process". "aww, look at the little processies!"

No wonder Raspberry Pis are so scarce if they’re using them for roofing

but for real though, why don't we just say "convenienter". like German, to use the longest word that dict.cc translates as "convenient", would just say "komfortabeler". that's one more syllable than "convenienter" would be! AND it'd get even longer if you added an adjective ending!

one of the things about that sucks about knowing another language, especially one in the same family (German) as your native language (English), and having ADHD is that you do things like stop in the middle of writing an email to wonder why English uses both "more" and "-er" for comparative forms depending on the length of the word, when German just always uses "-er". and also then you stop to post about wondering about it

Dear so-called “UX” designers, the opposite of “yes” isn’t “not now”, it’s “no.”

hah, I just coincidentally learned that Postgres 15 *was* going to have a JSON_TABLE function that worked like SQL Server's OPENJSON(). apparently it ended up getting reverted though

Show thread

of course, I recognize that a large part of why I feel this way is probably that I used SQL Server's JSON features first, and thus my mental model of how JSON-in-SQL should work is basically exactly that, but also, like...it's just way harder to manipulate arbitrary JSON objects in Postgres queries than in SQL, I feel like

Show thread

hot take: Postgres' JSON functionality is, in general, much more robust and powerful than SQL Server's (especially since JSON is an actual data type in Postgres), but SQL Server's JSON functionality is *much* easier to use. I would trade all the json_* and jsonb_* functions for OPENJSON() and the SELECT FOR JSON clause

Some people think that the sound you make when your diaphragm spasms should be spelled “hiccough”, and I think that’s pretty fucked ough

just tried some Beyond Jerky. it was pretty good, surprisingly like real jerky, maybe a *bit* of planty flavor but I'm not sure if I would identify it as such in a blind taste test. the texture is just *slightly* off from meat jerky due to the lack of connective tissue and such, but, again, I'm not sure I would identify that as an issue if I didn't know it was Beyond Meat and I weren't trying to compare it to real meat jerky
